UPDATE: The Uvalde Foundation For Kids in another press release confirmed that the nonprofit only ends operations for restructuring. According to the most recent information, the nonprofit will relaunch in the Fall/Winter 2023-2024!

Dallas - In a lamentable announcement last Friday, the nationally-operating 501c3 nonprofit, The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, disclosed the cessation of its operations due to insurmountable financial hurdles and insufficient community support, Dallas Metro News reported as per a release by the nonprofit. This foundation, originating from the tragic school shooting that occurred in Uvalde, Texas in May 2022, has been diligently working to deter violence in schools across the nation.

The press release from the foundation officials cited multiple economic issues that led to the eventual shut down. A notable cause is the lack of donations and community backing, coupled with the foundation's policy not to charge fees or solicit donations in exchange for its diverse array of services.

With a mission to mitigate school violence and create safer learning environments nationwide, the foundation has been instrumental in tackling critical school safety issues. These include bullying, gun violence, and mental health care, a range of issues that Daniel Chapin, the founder of the foundation, describes as "A culture of violence" inflicting harm on our nation's student population.

The foundation's groundbreaking work recently culminated in an invitation to speak at a special Nashville Metro Council session addressing school violence. This session, held on June 21st, was prompted by the Covenant School shooting in Nashville, Tennessee.

Since the foundation's establishment, it has taken an active role in the response and care for victims in numerous school shooting incidents nationwide. Some of these events include the ones at Michigan State University, the Allen, Texas mall, and Richneck Elementary school in Newport News, Virginia.

"I am heartbroken as are we collectively within the foundation to announce that we will no longer be in operation after just over a year of service to our nation's schools & communities. While our mission for now is forced to end, I am confident that we honored our vision and goal after that tragic day in Uvalde, Texas," The founder of the nonprofit noted in the release.
