Weekend Car Crashes Kill 5 Across North Texas: Police Roundup

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene of a deadly crash in Grand Prairie.

DALLAS, TX — Car crashes in Dallas, Arlington and Grand Prairie left give dead over the weekend and police on the hunt for the driver of a Chevrolet sedan who they say fled after striking and killing a bicyclist in Grand Prairie.

The bicyclist died around 6 a.m. Sunday at S. Belt Line Road and the I-20 eastbound service road after being struck by a driver in a Chevy Malibu or Impala, possibly gray.

Police said the driver is believed to be a black female in her late 20s. She was described as wearing a pink shirt, khaki shorts and pink tennis shoes. Another woman was riding in the car with her at the time of the crash, police say.

The car was seen driving northbound S. Belt Line and into Grand Prairie.

The vehicle, police say, most likely has front end damage to the passenger side.

The victim was later identified as Calvin John Middleton, Jr, 42, of Cedar Hill.

This is the 11th fatal collision in Grand Prairie this year, police said.


Fatality Crash — 1200 Algonquin Drive

One man died Sunday afternoon after a crash in the 1200 block of Algonquin Drive. Police say Hector Duran, 39, was driving his 2007 white Chevy Tahoe the wrong way on the roadway when another car began to approach his.

When Duran saw the vehicle coming toward him, he pulled his Tahoe sharply to the right and overcorrected.

Police said Duran lost control of the Tahoe and careened into a ditch, flipping the car. During the crash, Duran was ejected from the Tahoe.

He was transported Baylor Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Fatality Crash on W. Ledbetter Drive

One man died Sunday afternoon after his truck drive of the roadway in South Oak Cliff for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

Police said Rafael Soto was driving westbound in the 4500 block of West Ledbetter Drive around 1:27 p.m. Sunday when his truck veered off the roadway.

The truck drove onto the grass, colliding with a tree.

Soto was transported to Methodist Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead.


Fatality Crash 7400 Chesterfield Drive

One man walking Sunday Night in the street was struck by an unknown driver who fled the scene.

Police say two men were walking northbound in the 7400 block of Chesterfield Drive when one of the men was struck from behind.

The suspect vehicle is described as a possible gray four-door. The car fled the scene immediately, police say.

The victim was taken Methodist Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead one hour later. He has not been identified at this time.


Fatality Crash in Arlington

One pedestrian died Saturday in Arlington after he was struck by a tractor trailer while trying to cross State Highway 360.

Police say the man was crossing the main lanes of a highway around 3:25 a.m. when a passing big-rig truck struck him.

The driver of the tractor trailer stopped and called 9-1-1.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No other vehicles or persons were injured or involved. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin notification has occurred.
