Wi-Fi which is a wireless broadband router needs proper precautionary measures to secure the device for protecting your network. It can form a wireless network using a name called SSID (Service Set Identifier). The wifi routers are configured with a default pre-defined network name or SSID by the manufacturers of that device. The default names that devices hold are simple and typical like; default, wireless, netgear, Linksys, etc. Today this content will tell you why wifi name matters.

Why is Wi-Fi Name Important?

There are a couple of reasons as to what significance wifi name holds.

  • People who can get an access to your network namemay do a lot of mal stuff such as; view all confidential documents and files on your computer and spread virus, they can monitor all the websites you are visiting. Copy your passwords and log-in names, can read all your emails while they travel through your network can slow down your laptop, computer and can also slow down the speed of your internet connection, can also send spam or can also do illegal activities via your internet connection. Therefore it is important you rename the default name of your wifi.
  • Wifi network name also matters for security reasons. If you want to improve the security purpose of your wifi then change the default SSID that comes with your router to some other name. Do not choose name that has your birth date, address, name, or other personal information. Do not even use any of your website or windows passwords. Don’t choose any intruding name as well. Choose a name as that’s long as the maximum length that is allowed. Don’t choose SSID that has both name and numbers. Choosing a wireless name which is good will help you with safe secured usage of your wifi network.
  • Some routers initiate the WPA/WPE key that is based on the SSID. So by chance if someone gets to know your SSID they have the key to your network and can break any information. Thus changing the wifi name can hide all your information.
  • In some cases the SSID name is such that it can easily tell the type of your wifi router. This gives attackers the more potentiality to break into your network. So changing the name will create a block for the lazy attackers to put more effort in cracking your network. Knowing the type of your wifi device can also help them break your password.
  • Many times it is seen some area has similar wifi names. This can create hazards and can jam the network speed as it may get confused which network path to follow. Thus choosing a wifi name that is uncommon can solve this issue. Having uncommon wifi name will also enhance the connection speed of your network.

These are the reasons why wifi name matters and why is it necessary to have a wifi name. Thus periodic changing name of your wifi is recommended for security purpose.
