2 Austin Pedestrians Fatally Struck By Cars In 30 Minutes' Time

A woman was fatally struck by a vehicle along Loyola Lane on Wednesday evening before a man in his 60s was killed at Airport Boulevard.

AUSTIN, TX — Two pedestrians were killed within 30 minutes of each other after being hit by vehicles on Wednesday night in East Austin, according to medics.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics wrote on Twitter that a man in his 60s was fatally struck by a car as he tried to cross a street along the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard, south of the Oak Springs Drive intersection, at around 7 p.m. Not breathing by the time of medics' arrival, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

Just 30 minutes earlier, a woman was killed on Loyola Lane after being hit by a car. Medics made a death pronouncement after reaching the site of that collision where the woman of unspecified age was found on the roadway. The incident occurred at the corner of Loyola Lane and Sandshof Drive.

No further details were released on either incident. It's unclear if any charges were filed against the drivers involved as a result of the road deaths.

In reporting on the dual tragedies, medics pleaded with motorists to be alert while driving: "Please slow down, eliminate distractions and remain alert while driving in order to appropriately yield to pedestrian traffic."
