2 Female Home Invasion Suspects Shot Dead In North Austin
Two burglary suspects were killed and a third was injured when the residents of an apartment opened fire on them, police said.
AUSTIN, TX — Two women were found shot to death and a third person was injured in the aftermath of a home invasion in the northern part of the county late Tuesday, according to Austin Police.
Police said the violent incident took place at the Creekside on Parmer Lane apartments complex, 5401 E. Parmer Lane. At a 1:30 a.m. press conference, Officer Bino Cardenas said two women attempted to rob an apartment around 10:30 p.m. when the residents opened fire. A third wounded suspect was found nearby with non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the shooting, Cardenas said.
The two women were pronounced dead at the scene while the male suspect was hospitalized.

Other residents surrounding the crime scene were evacuated from their homes for more than an hour while police investigated the scene, Cardenas said. He said police later escorted the residents back to their homes, accompanying them to ensure the multiple crime scenes were not disturbed.
Police were expected to remain at the scene two to three hours after the 1:30 a.m. press briefing, Cardenas told reporters. He asked anyone with information that could prove useful to the police investigation to call detectives at (512) 472-TIPS.

Police on Twitter initially placed the incident in Manor before Cardenas specified it is within Austin's city limits.

The incident marks the second time in a 24-hour period police responded to a deadly shooting in the northern reaches of the city. Late Monday just before 11 p.m., a woman was shot dead and her male companion left seriously wounded following an altercation with a group of men who had been drinking at an apartment complex along the 7000 block of Grand Canyon Drive, according to police.

Police on Tuesday released descriptions of two suspects wanted in that shooting. Police also identified the woman who was killed as Elvi Vanessa Cervantes-De La Torre, 37. Her unidentified male companion was rushed to a hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition, police added.
