NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police are seeking a pair of suspects in a Monday shooting that left a woman dead and a man seriously injured overnight.
In an update late Tuesday morning, the Austin Police Department identified the woman who died following the shooting that took place just before 11 p.m. on Monday along the 7000 block of Grand Canyon Drive. Elvi Vanessa Cervantes-De La Torre, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene while her male companion was seriously injured. Police said her male companion was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, where he remains in stable condition after sustaining gunshot wounds.
After interviewing witnesses, police learned a group of eight to ten Hispanic men were drinking in the parking lot of the apartment complex when an altercation occurred between two of the men and the woman. Following the shooting, police said, the men split in to two groups. The first set got in to a maroon/reddish pick-up truck and the other into a black sedan-style vehicle.
