Here are the top stories today in Austin:

1) Austin-based oncologist shares melanoma prevention tips. Dr. Jeff Yorio, with Texas Oncology, says Texas is ranked third in the nation for the incidence of melanoma. As the summer rages on, and the sun continues to shine – Dr. Yorio has some tips and tricks for staying safe. Most importantly, we should avoid tanning beds at all costs, and wear at least SPF 30 if we plan to be out in direct sunlight. Check out the rest of Dr. Yorio's sun safety tips here at KVUE.


2) New report shows that Texas has the lowest gas price average of any US state. The latest report from AAA shows that as of Sunday, the national average was $4.07 per gallon, and the statewide average was $3.57 per gallon. In Travis County, the average was slightly higher at $3.64 per gallon. But in Austin, some reported that gas stations were selling regular gas for as low as $2.99 per gallon – wow!! 3) Good news: Austin company kickstarts a national competition for Latino entrepreneurs. Local Mexican-American food brand Siete Foods has announced its plans to award $40,000 this month in a nationwide contest for Latino business owners. KOAA states that qualifying businesses must be at least 50 percent Latino-owned and operate as a food and beverage business that specializes in tacos, serves tacos, and has the word "taco" in its business names. 4) Local first responders found the body of an adult while responding to a rescue call at Mt. Bonnell. While searching for an individual who fell at Mt. Bonnell on Saturday evening, crews discovered an "obviously deceased" adult patient. According to officials, the body had "been there for some time". KVUE has more on this story here.
