• Glimmer of hope: Esperanza Community opens 100 more shelter cabins (austinfreepress.org) — East Austin's Esperanza Community just doubled its shelter cabins to 200, adding 100 new units and a Glimmer Austin Community Center near Highways 71 and 183. Backed by city, county and state funding, the project aims to expand to more than 500 units in coming years, potentially sheltering roughly 9% of people experiencing homelessness in Travis County on any given night.

• Texas is reviewing how Austin ISD and three other districts spend money (dallasnews.com) — Austin ISD is one of four districts picked for a new state review of how school systems spend taxpayer money, just months after closing 11 campuses and cutting hundreds of positions. The comptroller's audit, requested by Gov. Greg Abbott, will scrutinize how much Austin's schools devote to classrooms versus administration, with findings due before lawmakers return to the Capitol in January.
