The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Austin.

(Patch Media)

Hey, people of Austin! Gabriela Couvillion here with today's issue of the Austin Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 79 Low: 47.

Here are the top stories today in Austin:

  1. Austin Public Works crews will begin street maintenance on Thursday, April 7, at "West 5th Street between West Lynn Street and Baylor Street." The work will consist of "installing an interlayer seal and placing new asphalt" and applying "new pavement markings." During that time, "the street will remain accessible," but there will be "partial lane closures." It is advised that "drivers, cyclists and pedestrians traveling along W. 5th Street" take necessary by traveling slowly and being "cautious of construction workers" and keeping an eye out for "work zone traffic signs, cones and flaggers." For more information on local Road Resurfacing Programs, visit AustinTexas.gov/StreetandBridge or call 3-1-1 and see: (AustinTexas.gov)
  2. Five new stores will be opening up this year at The Domain Northside, located at 11410 Century Oaks Terrace. The stores include Dr. Marten's shoe store, and clothing and fashion stores Anine Bing, Albion and Vuori. Jacqueline Fitch, Northwood Retail's Sr. Vice President of Leasing, said, "We curate a special merchandise mix at Domain Northside, introducing new brands to meet and exceed our shoppers' wants and needs." She added, "Our focus on debuting first-to-market concepts, in addition to first-to-Texas merchants, brings the best offerings for the community. We want to continue to provide space to groundbreaking digitally native tenants while also showcasing Austin's favorite homegrown names." For more details please visit: (CultureMap Austin)
  3. The Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation is seeking artists to paint "a new five-story mural downtown" at 301 Congress Ave. for its "Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation's Writing on the Walls initiative" which aims to transform "downtown Austin through public art and uplifting community voices." Painting is scheduled to start at the beginning of May and should be completed in two weeks. Interested artists can apply here by the 5 p.m. deadline on Friday, April 15.
