Here are the top stories in Austin today:

1) Austin police oversight director resigns after a long family leave. Farah Muscadin, Office of Police Oversight director, was set to return to work on Monday following nine months of leave, but instead resigned. Her office, the Office of Police Oversight, has been at the center of the debate on police accountability.

In a memo to the Austin City Council, City Manager Spencer Cronk said Muscadin decided to resign to focus on her family. Head to KUT for more on this story.

2) September ends too warm and too dry. Weather officials report that September came to a close with above-average temps and scarce precipitation. KXAN reports that "17 of the last 18 days of the month had afternoon maximums above normal, which, in part, led to an average high temperature of 94.6°." Head to KXAN to see what October's weather has in store.

3) An Austin ISD teacher is on paid leave over allegations of verbal and emotional abuse. A long-time Austin ISD teacher, Diane "Betsy" Cornwell, is under investigation by the district after several former Bowie High School students said she subjected them to emotional and verbal abuse and inappropriately touched students. Head to KVUE to learn more about the allegations and the district's next steps.

4) Governor Greg Abbott and challenger Beto O'Rourke sparred over a range of topics during Friday's debate. Abbott and O'Rourke clashed over migrant busing, guns, and the power grid failure to name a few topics. The Texas Tribune has a recap of the event as well as a fact check of their claims.
