📰 News we're reading

1. Airbnb commits $6.4 million to revive Austin's long-stalled St. John redevelopment (couriertexas.com) — A long-delayed redevelopment at St. Johns Avenue and I-35 is finally moving forward, with Airbnb pledging $6.4 million to help build more than 500 rental units, about half of them affordable for Austin families. The project will also expand St. John Pocket Park to four acres and add retail and public art, with completion targeted for spring 2028 and additional funding from HACA and Greystar.

2. Austin police to increase enforcement of rules governing e-motos (thedailytexan.com) — If you ride high‑powered electric motorcycles in Austin, expect stricter enforcement as APD ramps up warnings, citations, and arrests after safety concerns raised at the city's Mobility Committee. City Council member Zo Qadri and colleagues pushed for clearer rules and public education, while UT continues enforcing its own limits on personal electric vehicles around campus.

3. Location and Income Remain a Factor for Measles Vaccination Rates in Austin Area Schools • The Austin Chronicle (austinchronicle.com) — Austin parents are facing renewed measles concerns after Austin Public Health confirmed the county's second 2026 case, an unvaccinated infant likely exposed abroad, just as schools reopen. New data show big differences in MMR vaccination rates across Austin ISD campuses and nearby districts, with some higher‑income suburbs and even a Northwest Austin elementary falling well below the 95% protection benchmark.

4. The Unheralded Veteran Keeping Austin FC's Season Alive • The Austin Chronicle (austinchronicle.com) — Austin FC's playoff hopes are still alive thanks to veteran striker Christian Ramírez, who has sparked a six-game unbeaten run with clutch goals on the road. As the club battles for a Western Conference playoff spot, his leadership and scoring are especially vital while other key attackers return from injury and regain form.
