Austin Among Best Cities To Celebrate 4th Of July: Report

AUSTIN, TX — According to a new national rankings list, Austin is the ninth most popular city for Fourth of July celebrations.
HomeToGo, the world’s largest vacation rental search engine, has produced a guide that reveals the 21 most popular cities for Independence Day celebrations this year. In the 16-city list, affordability looms large. The ranking exposes a dramatic difference in the cost of accommodations across the United States during the week of Independence Day.
Houston and San Antonio also make the list, the latter snagging the 17th spot while the latter deemed the best city in the country to celebrate the 4th of July based on its affordability. But let's focus on Austin for now. According to the list, here are the various costs associated with celebrating the nation's birth in Austin — without busting your budget:

Austin
- Food/drink: $15.19
- American flag: $11.88
- Gas (per gallon): $2.74
- Sparklers: $14.05
- Accommodation: $62.00
- Total: $105.86
Those costs compare favorably with the national average. The average cost of a 3' x 5' American flag this summer is $11.85, according to the survey. The national average cost of a sparklers is $14.02, while the average price of accommodations is $66.38. For the purposes of the compilation, analysts consider food and drink as consisting of a pancake breakfast, a barbecue dinner, and two beers.

The only other Texas cities making the list, Houston and San Antonio, also had strong showings — particularly the Alamo City that, as mentioned, captured the top spot. Here's the breakdown:

- Accommodations: $87
- Total: $129.38
San Antonio:
- Food/drink: $13.36

- St. Louis, Mo., ranked second with total celebration costs of $77.46.
- Las Vegas, third, $84.68
- Atlanta, fourth, $88.25
- Lake Havasu City, Ariz., fifth, $89.44
- Denver, sixth, $95.41
- Atlantic City, seventh, $97.95
- Philadelphia, eighth, $99.71
- Austin, ninth, $105.86
- Myrtle Beach, Calif., tenth, $106.61
- Chicago, 11th, $107.23
- Nashville, 12th, $109.54
- Miami, 13th, $113.30
- Boston, 14th, $120.07
- San Francisco, 15th, $120.76
- San Diego, Calif., 16th, $124.25
- Houston, 17th, $129.38

- New Orleans was the most expensive city on the list in which to celebrate Independence Day, ranked 21st with total costs of $161.84.
