Here are the top 4 stories today in Austin:
- APD drug bust finds 500 grams of meth, and 800 grams of fentanyl at an Austin home. An investigation led detectives to believe 43-year-old Joseph Nicholas Goodman was distributing narcotics out of his home. APD executed a search warrant and found more than 500 grams of meth, over 800 grams of fentanyl, and two firearms. KXAN has more on this story here.
- Kaitlin Armstrong, Texas love triangle murder suspect, is back in Austin to face charges. The Austin, Texas, woman accused of killing cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson is back in Travis County after being transported from a jail in Harris County. Learn more about this developing story here at Fox 7 Austin.
- Austin-area firefighters responded to over 130 fires in 24 hours. More than 130 fire reports were sent in across Central Texas on the Fourth of July. Much of the Hill Country remains under "extreme" or "exceptional" drought conditions even after some beneficial rainfall last week, and sparks from holiday fireworks likely played a huge role in this figure. Learn more on this story here at KVUE.
- Austin Public Health is investigating five more potential cases of monkeypox. The virus that causes monkeypox may have infected five more people in the area, according to Austin Public Health. APH stated it's investigating "five presumptive cases in which the individuals are experiencing symptoms consistent with monkeypox." Local health officials already confirmed one positive case after testing by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and that person is still in isolation at home. Learn more on how the virus spreads and which symptoms to lookout for here at KXAN.
