Austin Area Under Wind Advisory
Wind gusts that could reach up to 40 miles per hour prompt officials to implement advisory until 1 a.m. Tuesday.
AUSTIN, TX — The Austin area is under a wind advisory until early Tuesday morning, weather officials said on Monday.
Southerly winds were gusting at between 15 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour on Monday, with gusts expected to reach up to 40 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. As a result, weather officials issued the advisory in warning residents to secure outdoor articles that could be blown away.
The strong gusts also prompted officials to alert motorists affected by the strong wind, particularly those embarked on east-to-west travel. A wind advisory alerts to gusts in excess of 35 miles per hour, which makes travel that much more challenging. Those driving commercial vehicles are advised to exercise heightened caution in traveling.

The wind advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. on Tuesday, weather officials said.
