Here are the top stories today in Austin:
- Austin Beerworks, which has brewed beer since 2011, is holding "an Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration." Several events will be celebrated, including "the relaunch of Eastern Philosophy, a Kaiju Brew." The beer "was first released in January 2022 as part of a collaboration between Austin Beerworks and Kaiju Cut and Sew" which "makes handmade custom bags and minimalist wares showcasing Japanese fabrics and ethically sourced leather." The brew is a "7.5 percent ABV Jasmine Dragon Pearl Tea-Infused strong lager" which "is made to be poured over ice." (FOX 7 Austin)
- Austin Habitat for Humanity ReStores have been in business for 30 years, and to "commemorate this milestone," the Restore located at 500 West Ben White Blvd. invites the public "to shop, donate, and celebrate on Friday, May 20." Customers will receive "10 percent off all purchases, free ReStore swag, and treats from Hey Cupcake and Cuvée Coffee." The event at the Ben White location will start at 9:30 a.m., "but the sale, swag, and other sweet treats will also be offered at the Lake Creek and San Marcos locations." - On Friday, May 20, the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) will hold its "annual Art Bra Austin" runway model event at JW Marriott Austin located at 110 East 2nd St. This year's theme is "Days of Haute" which "celebrates amazing women who survive breast cancer and raises money for the nonprofit, BCRC, to help others diagnosed with the deadly disease." Radiation therapist Jessie Young will feature "creative art bra designs" made with "expired thermoplastic material, typically used as face masks for her patients." Tickets are available in person until Friday, May 13 and online here until Friday, May 20. For more details click here and visit: (KEYE TV CBS Austin)
- Austin City Limits Music Festival recently "released the lineup for this October's event" but if you prefer to see "the performances without the crowds, you're in luck." On Thursday, May 12, Hulu announced that in 2022 and 2023, "it will stream C3 Presents' three biggest festivals — ACL, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza — along with Live Nation." In addition, select performances will be livestreamed "exclusively to Hulu SVOD subscribers at no additional cost." For more on this year's music festival, go to KVUE.com/ACL and visit: (KVUE.com)
- If you're looking to add a 4-legged family member, there are several animal shelters in Austin that have pets that are waiting to be adopted. Whether you like "dogs, cats and other kinds of pets," all those are available at local shelters. "According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals," there are "about 6.5 million pets and other companion animals" that "are surrendered to animal rescue organizations each year nationwide." Unfortunately, only about "half of all these animals are adopted each year." To adopt a pet and for more information visit: (Austin Patch)
