ACC will host various community gatherings from Oct. 7-13, including 'Financial Aid Month' aid to 'Guided Pathways' showcasing.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin Community College is hosting a series of community events this week, from its "Building Bridges" event and "Financial Aid Month" observation to showcasing its "Guided Pathways" initiative.

Community events scheduled from Oct. 7-13 include:

  • Regular Board Meeting: The ACC Board of Trustees hosts its regular board meeting 3 p.m., Monday, October 7, at the Highland Business Center, Rm. 201 (5930 Middle Fiskville Rd.). JP Morgan Chase will present a $250,000 check to fund apprenticeships programs in high-demand careers. With the support of JPMorgan Chase, ACC will expand the Career ACCelerator Program to include IT, healthcare, and manufacturing tracks.
  • Financial Aid Month — FAFSA Applications Underway: ACC hosts a series of events to help students apply for financial aid to help pay for college. Most students and families are eligible for some type of financial aid – from grants, scholarships, loans, or work-study. ACC’s team will work with students to explore options and complete applications. For more information, visit https://www.austincc.edu/campaigns/financial-aid-month.
  • Building Bridges event focuses on equity through ACC’s Fashion Incubator: ACC’s Office of Community Engagement invites students, staff, faculty, and the community for the monthly Building Bridges Event, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Friday, October 11, at 1709 E. 12th St. The conversation — ‘Fashion Incubator and Equity: What’s the Vision and How Do We Get There?’ — will feature ACC Fashion Incubator Director Nina Means. The event is free and open to the public.
  • Help students with emergencies through the annual Golf Scramble: You can still register for ACC’s 14th annual Golf Scramble 8 a.m., Friday, October 11, at Riverside Golf Course (1020 Grove Blvd.). The event directly benefits the college’s Student Emergency Fund. Students facing a crisis can get assistance covering the costs of tuition, books, fees, and more to continue their education. The Golf Scramble has raised more than $180,000 since it began. To learn more or register, visit austincc.edu/scramble.
  • It’s National Adopt a Shelter Pet month: ACC needs help finding homes for the college’s Veterinary Technology pets. Every semester, ACC students, faculty, and staff care for and treat animals from the Bastrop County Animal Shelter. Those animals are ready for adoption. At ACC, the pets experience leash training and socialization, are microchipped, and receive medical care, including vaccinations and heartworm prevention. • ACC discusses next steps for Guided Pathways to keep students on track: ACC’s Guided Pathways program launched in 2016. It redesigns and re-aligns programs, support services, and instructional approaches to help students clarify goals, choose and enter pathways to achieve their goals, and master knowledge and skills needed to advance in the workforce or further their education. The program is a finalist for the national Excelencia in Education award, which is recognized for its work to promote Latinx student success. The transformation of the program, success, and future steps are the topic of the ACC President’s Podcast.
