Austin Community College Events Feb. 24-March 1, 2020

From Black History Month observances to fighting hunger to adulting classes and running, much is happening on campus.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin Community College (ACC) hosts a series of community events Feb. 24 through March 1. The events include:

  • ACC provides extra support services to fight food insecurity: A recent study found 42 percent of ACC students experience food insecurity. With the rising cost of living, ACC is hosting multiple outlets to help students gain regular access to food.
    • Mobile Food Pantry: ACC partners with Central Texas Food Bank to distribute food including fruits, vegetables, cereal, and boxed and canned goods at no cost to students. The Mobile Distribution Center is open 9 a.m. to noon Friday, February 28, at ACC Riverside (1020 Grove Blvd.).
    • Food Pantry and Resources Program, launched in fall 2018, is available on all campuses, and provides education, aid, and referrals to resources regarding food insecurity as well as student health. ACC’s Office of Student Life received the Higher Education Community Impact Award from the Governor’s Office for its food pantry. For more information, visit austincc.edu/foodpantry.
    • SNAP Workshops: A series of workshops is planned districtwide for information on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Visitors will get help applying and connecting to resources. The final two are planned from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cypress Creek Campus (1555 Cypress Creek Road, Cedar Park) on Tuesday, February 25, and at the Elgin Campus (1501 US-290, Elgin) on Wednesday, February 26.
