Austin Community College Events For Sept. 9-15, 2019
ACC's status as a hotbed for intellectual pursuit is reflected in a number of important activities taking place in the coming days.
AUSTIN, TX — It's no secret that Austin Community College is a hotbed for intellectual pursuit. That energy is reflected in a number of key events taking place in the coming days.
ACC is hosting a series of community events from Sept. 9 to Sept. 15:
- Agreement with YMCA for childcare and internships discussion at Board Meeting: The ACC Board of Trustees hosts its regular board meeting 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, at the Highland Business Center, Rm. 201 (5930 Middle Fiskville Rd.). Trustees will consider an agreement with the YMCA of Austin to lease space at the Highland Business Center in fall 2020. The agreement would include the continuation of the Child Watch Program at ACC Highland Campus, plus internship opportunities, and discounted memberships for students and ACC employees.
- Property Tax Hearing: Prior to the regular board meeting, trustees will host the first of two public hearings on the college’s proposed 2019/20 property tax rate. The hearing will begin at 2:45 p.m. Rates are expected to remain the same as the previous fiscal year, which is one of the lowest tax rates in Central Texas. The second public hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12. Trustees will adopt the final tax rate on Monday, Sept. 16.
- ACC skills-up community members to higher-paying careers in San Marcos: ACC’s Continuing Education Division partners with Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos to provide training opportunities in English, computer skills, HVAC, welding, and other skilled trades through ACC’s Community Pathways Program. The program has trained almost 2,000 students since it began in fall 2016. - Support student scholarships at Boots & Bats Gala: Tickets are now on sale for the second annual Boots & Bats Gala, supporting student scholarships. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at ACC Highland, Building 4000 (6101 Highland Campus Dr.). Hosted in partnership with renowned Southwest artist Amado Pena's Art Has Art Foundation, the gala features live music, a live and silent auction, and a cocktail reception. Texas State Senator Kirk Watson and Dr. Aileen Bumphus will serve as co-chairs of the 2019 gala. All proceeds directly benefit student scholarships at ACC and the AHH.
