Austin Community College Schedules Myriad Events
From its annual gala to registration for spring classes, community college system has a bevy of happenings set for the coming days.
AUSTIN, TX — From its annual gala to registration for classes, Austin Community College will be hosting a series of community events from Oct. 28 through Nov. 3.
Events include:
- Annual gala: Residents are invited to support student scholarships at 2019 Boots & Bats Gala on Saturday. Hosted in partnership with renowned Southwest artist Amado Peña and his Art Has Heart Foundation (AHH) and presented by HEB, all proceeds from the second annual Boots & Bats Gala and auction will directly benefit student scholarships. More than 200 pieces of art donated by local and national artists for a live and silent auction will be available. Teams will be installing the art beginning Tuesday, Oct. 29. The gala is scheduled on Saturday, Nov. 2, at ACC Highland. State Sen. Kirk Watson and Dr. Aileen Bumphus, assistant vice president of the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence at UT-Austin, will serve as this year’s as co-chairs. - Discover college and career paths for the hottest jobs in Central Texas: Registration is now open for ACC Fest, the annual fall exploration college and career fair. The event is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at ACC Highland, Building 4000 (6101 Highland Campus Dr.). Current and prospective students will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with ACC faculty and staff to learn about ACC’s 10 areas of study, academic programs, and other educational pathways. The event features live demonstrations and an interactive career assessment tool. For more information and to register, visit austincc.edu/accfest.
- Registration is now open for spring courses, and classes are filling fast. The spring semester begins Monday, Jan. 21. ACC offers 16-, 12-, and 8-week sessions both on-campus and online. Evening and weekend programs also are available to fit busy work and family schedules. Additional support services are available for online and distance education students, such as online tutoring to help students with limited access to campus. - Apply now for Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy. Want one of the best engineering degrees in the nation? You can get that at ACC, officials said. ACC, Texas A&M University, and Chevron are accepting applications for the new Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at ACC. The Austin Chamber of Commerce expects the demand for engineers to reach more than 4,800 by 2022. Students in the academy enroll at both ACC and Texas A&M and are guaranteed admission to the Texas A&M Engineering School to complete their bachelor’s degree. - A Walk for Education: ACC’s Black Student Success Committee joins the National Society of Black Engineers for the annual “A Walk for Education,” 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at ACC Eastview Campus, 3101 Webberville Rd. The goal is to increase awareness of the opportunities available through education, particularly in the STEM fields, and to shatter myths about African-Americans in math, science, engineering, and other technologies. - Deadline for priority consideration for student scholarships: Current and prospective students have until Friday, Nov. 1, to fill out the General Scholarship Application to receive priority for getting financial assistance for their education for spring and summer 2020. The General Scholarship Application allows students to access hundreds of opportunities in one location. The ACC Foundation offers scholarships for ACC students based on financial need, family status, educational background, high school, or academic major.
