Austin Community College Students Can Learn About Financial Aid
Those already enrolled and others planning to do so can learn how to access from $70M in funds to help with books, classes, expenses.
AUSTIN, TX — Austin Community College students will have an opportunity this weekend to meet one-on-one with financial aid specialists to help those attending the school access more than $70 million in federal funds doled out annually to pay for books, classes and other expenses.
ACC awards $70 million-plus annually to help students. Current and future students are invited to learn how to access these funds at Financial Aid Day from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 15, at ACC Highland Campus, 6101 Highland Campus Dr..
“Paying for college is one of the biggest hurdles students face, but there is money available for those who need help,” Jason Briseno, Student Assistance executive director, said. “Our team is here to show students and their families the tools that are available and guide them through the process.”

The event includes an information session from noon to 1 p.m. Following the presentation, students can get one-on-one help applying for financial aid, with ACC advisers scheduled to be on-site.
“I received three scholarships from ACC, and it really helped me to stay focused on my studies," Vandela Harcrow, an ACC scholarship recipient, said. "Being able to have time to study and not worry about work kept me on track,. No one likes thinking and worrying about money. So, knowing that there was help, even a hundred dollars, was crucial.”

Most students qualify for some aid, ACC officials note, with students awarded more than $5,200 on average. Financial aid includes grants, loans, scholarships, work study, emergency funds, military exemptions, and tuition exemptions.
