Austin Cycling Studio Instructor Honors Mom, Cancer Survivor
LOVE Cycling Studio's Bryan Gonzalez to host Oct. 20 spin class amid National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to celebrate his mother.
AUSTIN, TX — How's this for a meaningful mother-son project: A cycling studio instructor will be hosting a fundraising spin class later this month in honor of his mother in the midst of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month being observed in October.
Inclusive active wear brand Outdoor Voices has partnered with LOVE Cycling Studio to host a music video spin class in light of October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sounds altruistic enough, right? But there's so more to this story.
Beverly Gonzales, mother of LOVE instructor Bryan Gonzales, was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer during a routine mammogram in April 2015, event organizers explained. But thanks to early detection, most of the cancer was removed via lumpectomy shortly after the diagnosis. She then underwent 12 rounds of chemo and 28 radiation treatments before being declared cancer-free in July of 2016.

Today, the breast cancer survivor has taken it as her mission to encourage other women to get regular screenings in hopes of early detection. Her son, Bryan, wanted to support her initiative and offered to host a fundraising spin class at LOVE Cycling Studio to spread her message of awareness.
Each bike booked in the 10:30 a.m. class on Sunday, Oct. 20 will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation — an independent, nonprofit organization committed to achieving prevention and a cure for breast cancer. At the end of class, Outdoor Voices will raffle off a pink exercise kit for one lucky attendee, and all riders will go home with a special OV gift.

Ah, but there will be other rewards, spinning grasshoppers: A post-workout happy hour will offer complimentary pink cocktails made with cold-pressed juice from Juiceland and FIX Vodka, an all new high-alkaline vodka made from organic corn and high-PH, pure Texas aquifer water. For more mild imbibers, there will be cold (pink) cans of Strawberry Raspberry Redbud, Independence Brewing Co.’s fall Seasonal Berliner Weisse, and Austin Eastcider’s Rosé Cider.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in pink from head to toe and to stay for a rose-colored photo-opp after the sweat session. Biked can be booked at by clicking here.
Special events are launched across the city for myriad reasons and celebrations throughout the year. This upcoming spin class date is propelled by a son's love for his mother, and with admiration of her fight — giving new meaning to his place of employment.
