Austin ISD Teachers, Staff Poised For Pay Increases

Recent passage of HB3 overhauling public education finance system enables district to allot $48M for pay hikes.

AUSTIN, TX — By virtue of recent passage of House Bill 3 — a historic overhaul of the state's public education finance system — Austin ISD teachers and staff are poised to receive pay increases.

In a message to teachers and staff posted on the Austin ISD website, Superintendent Paul Cruz said the district will be able to more than double the minimum amount decreed in the bill's passage. To that end, the district is committing $48 million in permanent compensation increases including the following:

  • 7 percent compensation increase for teachers, counselors and librarians with more than five years of experience;
  • 6 percent compensation increase for all other staff;
  • A stipend increase to our special education teachers, an investment of about $500,000; and
  • A stipend increase to our bilingual teachers, which reflects a $1.2 million investment.

With deep appreciation, I thank you for the exceptional work you do every day to make sure the students we serve are encouraged, supported, and successful," Cruz wrote. "Your efforts make me #AISDproud... Thank you for your hard work, commitment to our students and for calling #AISDhome."
