Austin Police Officer, Wife Accused Of Social Security Fraud

In a recently unsealed indictment, Roosevelt Granderson II accused of having made false statements, wife of stealing $183,260 in SSI funds.

AUSTIN, TX — An Austin police officer and his wife have been charged with Social Security fraud, according to a published report.

Referencing an indictment unsealed Tuesday in U.S. Western District Court in Austin, the Austin American-Statesman reported that Roosevelt Granderson II is accused of having knowingly made false statements related to Selica Granderson's eligibility to received Supplemental Security Income benefits.

The indictment accuses Roosevelt Granderson of falsely denying he lived in the same house and sharing a checking account with the woman, according to the report.

As a result, he's been charged with two counts: Making a false statement to an agency of the U.S. and misprision of felony. The indictment further accuses Selica Granderson of allegedly stealing about $183,260 in Social Security funds, charging her with seven counts, according to the report.

Warrants have reportedly been issued for both defendants.

Patch reached out to to the Austin Police Department to ask about Granderson's status in light of the accusations against him. A spokesperson for the police department told Patch the officer has been placed on restrictive duty once the allegations were made known.

"The Austin Police Department was aware of this ongoing investigation and provided assistance when requested to the extent allowed by law," the APD statement reads. "Officer Granderson was placed on restricted duty when we were made aware of the allegations and will now, in accordance with Texas Local Government Code, be suspended without pay effective immediately pending the final disposition of the indictment.
