Austin Warns Residents To Keep Pets Away From Lady Bird Lake
Presence of algae potentially toxic to animals detected at popular site, prompting city warning to keep pets away until testing is done.
AUSTIN, TX — City officials have issued a warning to residents on keeping their pets away from Lady Bird Lake for the time being after finding algae that is harmful to animals.
The warning issued on Sunday recommended that pet owners keep their animals from getting into the water or drinking it due to the algae that does not impact humans. Lower Colorado River Authority officials currently are testing the lake water to evaluate toxicity, which could take up to four days to complete.
Patch will update once the results of the toxicity testing are completed. In an abundance of caution, however, dogs should be kept away.
