Bank Robbery Suspect Sought In East Austin Heist

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police were investigating a bank robbery on Wednesday that was committed by a possibly armed suspect, officials said.

The incident occurred at 11:50 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank branch on 1825 S. Pleasant Valley Rd., police said in a press advisory. Officials said a black male suspect entered the bank, claimed to have a weapon, displayed a note, demanded money and left the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police noted no weapon was seen, and no injuries were reported. The suspect is described a chubby man in his 40s standing at around six feet tall and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black jacket, jeans and a gray or khaki fisherman’s hat.

Police said they would release more details later in the day, as well as image from the bank's surveillance camera. The incident marked the 21st bank robbery of the year in Austin.
