Bicyclist Killed In North Austin Identified By Police
Officials said the woman was killed while repairing her bike within the designated bicycle lane when she was hit by a driver who fled.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the bicyclist who was killed this week after being struck by a truck in North Austin.
The collision occurred on Monday, Dec. 16, just before 2:30 a.m. along the 6000 block of Cameron Road. It was there where a silver, 2014 Dodge Ram pickup traveling southbound on the road struck a woman who was dealing with a mechanical issue on her bike within the designated bicycle lane, police said in a press advisory.
Merry Daye, 45, was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver who hit Daye fled the scene, and police later found the truck abandoned. A suspect has yet to be identified, police said, and the vehicle is being processed for evidence.

The incident marked Austin’s 82nd fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 84 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, police added, there were 71 fatal traffic crashes and 72 traffic fatalities.
