  1. On Saturday, June 25, The Fourth Grade Project opened at the Bullock Texas State History Museum, at 108 W. 18th St. in Austin. The exhibition highlights "the work of visual artist Judy Gelles" and "features images and personal stories of school children across the globe." Museum curator Kathryn Siefker said, "We're really excited to have this exhibit at the museum. Families can bring their kids before school starts back up and learn from other fourth-graders from around the world." (KVUE.com)
  2. After two years of cancellations and postponements" due to COVID-19, the demand for quinceañeras is up again. "Quinceañeras are Hispanic and Latino celebrations of a girl's 15th birthday, signifying her journey from childhood into womanhood." Quince Expos and Ricky's Events from Austin "hosted the first quinceañera expo of the year in north Austin with another planned in Kyle in October." The purpose of the event was "to help connect families with dressmakers, entertainers, caterers, deejays and other local vendors." (KXAN.com)

In February, Kayleigh Williamson from Austin "became the first person with Down syndrome to complete the Austin Marathon," and "now, she will be the second person with a cognitive disability to participate in the Boston Marathon." As part of the 'Runner 321' program, she was chosen "to join the Boston run under bib number 321." The program "developed by Adidas and the Boston Marathon challenges marathons around the world to designate bib 321 for a runner with a cognitive disability who wants to participate." (KVUE.com)
  4. On Saturday, June 25, before midnight; an adult individual died "after being hit by a car on the southbound Interstate 35 frontage road just south of William Cannon Drive." According to "Austin-Travis County EMS," the cause of the accident is unknown and unfortunately, the person "was pronounced dead on the scene." (KVUE.com)
  5. Thousands of "abortion rights supporters gathered at the Texas State Capital" in Austin on Saturday, June 25. The rally took place "a day after the Supreme Court came down with a landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade." The event called "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" in which supporters brought "pots, pans and spatulas to make noise and draw attention" was organized by "the group TX4Abortion."
