TACO Talk: The Art of...Appraising Art Sunday, November 1, 2026 Doors 2:00pm | Lecture 2:30PM In-Person & On Zoom TICKETS $20 General Admission | $10 Students | Free for NCHM Members Dr. Francine Carraro and Lee Ann Whatley come together with dynamic backgrounds in the museum and gallery worlds to discuss the Art of Appraising Art with an informative, educational presentation for art collectors. Together they will discuss what important details make up an appraisal report, the methodologies used to arrive at specific valuations and how and why appraisals are important. Whether you are considering evaluating your collection for Insurance purposes, Estate Planning purposes, or to potentially sell or donate your artwork, you will learn how a professional appraisal report can be an essential tool for the conscientious and discerning collector. From start to finish you will know what to expect from the initial phone call to the ultimate product; a process that will address the problem to be solved and the expectations of the client, creating a scope of work and estimate for services, to the final understanding of what the final report and product will provide for you. You will know what to expect at an initial consultation and for the on-site inspection and data collection. There will be ample time for questions and answers to demystify the appraisal process. Light refreshments available before the lecture. Free parking is available behind the Museum; accessible from W 23rd St. To attend online, register and receive the Zoom meeting link by email ahead of the lecture. Built in 1855, the house and slave quarters and the collections they display shed light on the local, individual, and political history of our always-growing city. Today, the Museum features rotating exhibits, a speaker series called "Modern Times," and free monthly events for the entire family. The main house is among the oldest residences still standing in Austin. The site is also home to the only remaining intact slave quarters in the city.
