Case Of Austin Fire Official Allegedly Spying On Women In Showers Intensifies

The unnamed official who recently retired is said to have planted a small surveillance camera in the women's shower area.

AUSTIN, TX — An investigation into allegations that a former Austin Fire Department lieutenant secretly recorded women in a locker room has intensified with issuance of search warrants, according to a report.

KXAN reported that a search warrant was recently issued and executed for an H2 camera and SD card allegedly belonging to the unnamed Austin Fire Department lieutenant. The suspect worked at Fire Station No. 1 downtown and recently retired, according to the report.

A woman reportedly found the recording device in the locker room at the fire station on Fifth Avenue, giving it to her husband who later turned it over to the Austin Police Department, according to the report. The woman told police she saw the lieutenant walking out of the women's shower shortly before she found the device.

Some nine hours after she took the surveillance device, the lieutenant asked for a private conversation, saying "I think you know what we need to talk about," according to the report. The man then supposedly acknowledged having planted the device and pleaded for its return, offering to retire or transfer from the department in exchange, KXAN reported.

The woman went to the police instead.
