Coronavirus: Texas Illness Count Grows To 64,880, 6 More Deaths

Another 593 cases of respiratory illness were diagnosed on Monday, one day after the biggest single-day spike added nearly 2K more.

AUSTIN, TX — The number of cases of the coronavirus grew by 593 on Monday from the previous day, growing to 64,880 since the onset of illness. Correspondingly, the number of deaths blamed on the respiratory illness grew to 1,678 as six more succumbed to the ailment.

The uptick comes as Gov. Greg Abbott continues to expand a reopening of the state economy to reignite stalled commerce. According to a statistical dashboard maintained by Texas Department of State Health Services health officials, there are 19,864 active cases of illness across the state where 43,338 patients have recovered since getting sick.

Heath officials reported 1,093,676 tests for the illness have been conducted, including 970,031 viral tests and another 103,460 tests for antibodies. The population of Texas is roughly 29 million.

The increase in new cases of illness on Monday came one day after the state saw its biggest single-day spike when 1,949 additional diagnoses emerged. New cases of the illness crossed the 64,000 mark on Sunday when the count grew to 64,287.

  • Harris: 12,276 cases.
  • Dallas: 10,234 cases.
  • Tarrant: 5,513 cases.
  • Travis: 3,272 cases.
  • Bexar: 2,830 cases.
  • El Paso: 2,794 cases.
  • Potter: 2,321 cases.
