Downtown Austin Bank Robbed In Broad Daylight
Police said the suspect entered the Congress Avenue bank lobby before demanding cash and fleeing on foot.
AUSTIN, TX — Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred late Monday morning in downtown Austin.
A call was placed to police just after 11 a.m. alerting them to the Bank of America branch heist at 515 Congress Avenue at the corner with 5th Street. Officer Destiny Silva described the suspect as a black man between 40 to 45 years of age and weighing about 200 pounds. He was described as balding with a beard, last seen wearing a light-colored T-shirt.
After demanding and securing cash from a teller, the man fled on foot traveling eastbound, Silva said. No injuries were reported, and it's unclear if the man wielded a weapon.

The time and location of the bank robbery — in broad daylight and amid the highly trafficked central business district — heightened the brazenness of the incident. "This just goes to show you crime can occur any time, any place," Silva noted. "So just be aware, be vigilant and pay attention to your surroundings. Because you never know what you can find."
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact police at (512) 974.5092.
