Downtown Venue Native Hostel To Host Cocktail Competition

Mixologists from 15 of the city's top establishments will compete for cash prizes toward creating the most compelling cocktail.

AUSTIN, TX — Native Hostel will host its first-ever cocktail competition next week featuring 15 mixologists from top Austin establishments vying to create the most cempelliing cocktail.

Organized by Desert Door, the competition will feature guest judges, cocktail samples while supplies last and more surprises. The Texas Sotol brand is enlisting the mixologists' talents to create the winning cocktail in Native's event space. Snake Hawk Press will also offer free, live screen printing for the first hour of the event.

The event takes place on Wednesday, June 27, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Native Hostel, 807 E. 4th St.

The event will be emceed by KVUE reporter Kris Betts, and will feature a cocktail competition where drinks will be evaluated by special guest judges Adi Anand of Hot Luck and marketing firm Guerilla Suit; local musician Dan Dyer; Casey Wilcox, executive chef of Central Standard; Rachel Holtin of @AustinFoodstagram; Lance Posey, bar manager of Native Hostel; and Madeline Hollern, deputy editor of Austin Monthly.

The winning mixologist will receive a cash prize of $1,000, and their cocktail will be featured at both Native Hostel & Desert Door. The second place winner will receive $500, and the third place mixologist will win $250. The competition will kick off with introductions at 6:30 p.m., and the first round will begin by 7 p.m. Music by DJ Chino Casino will be featured throughout the event.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to catch the full competition and to try samples of the competing cocktails while supplies last.
