EAST AUSTIN, TX — Julie Myrtille Bakery — the local French pastries maker offering its wares at farmers’ markets beloved by Austinites and lauded by Instagrammers — will open its first storefront in East Austin, Patch has learned.

The bricks-and-mortar location at Springdale General is scheduled to open on Wednesday, Nov. 20, bakery officials said. As the first authentic French bakery in Austin, "...the storefront opening writes a new chapter in the city’s culinary history," officials described in an email. Helmed by award-winning and French-trained Parisian pastry chef Julie Myrtille, the storefront will bring the treasured farmers’ market French bakery to a larger audience, officials added.

The store will offer a full menu of the namesake pastry chef's creations, made from seasonal and locally sourced ingredients — including sweets and savories embodying a certain French art de vivre, officials wrote. The bakery will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Springdale General, 1023 Springdale Rd.

Operating year-round since 2016, Julie Myrtille Bakery grew from its original farmers' market locale to 9 such open-air venues throughout Austin, Bee Cave and Sunset Valley. The French bakery is regarded as both the fastest growing and largest bakery in Austin in terms of locations, officials said.

The youngest female chef of the Academie Culinaire de France, Myrtille has gained a wide following in Austin as a result of her delectably authentic, mouth-watering offerings. The sustainable bakery has become known for the widest range of authentic French creations in collaboration with local farmers and her support of the community, both of which are a response to health, social and environmental concerns.

“I define my work as a constant search for the right balance between taste, textures and turning up,” Chef Myrtille said. She quickly achieved iconic status both locally and abroad after becoming the youngest female chef at the prestigious Académie Culinaire de France. “I want my creations to be light and balanced and respectful of the rhythm of seasonal fruits while allowing people to rediscover the forgotten tastes. As a sustainable bakery, we also believe in making healthy, responsible choices that have a better impact both socially and environmentally.”

Julie Myrtille Bakery’s storefront will offer breakfast, lunch, and brunch with an "exceptional and unprecedented assortment of French creations" along with cold and hot beverages, officials said. Signature menu items feature Chef Myrtille’s refined spin on classic French fare, including croissants, cakes, cannelés, madeleines, quiche Lorraine and vegetarian quiches, pain Suisse, brioche, seasonal fruit tarts and jams, and Parisian hot chocolate, among others.

All-day breakfast and lunch will be served on weekdays, and brunch will be available all day on weekends.

Chef Myrtille and business manager Melanie Roy designed the bakery’s first storefront with assistance from ACB Architectes & Associés, a Parisian architectural office. The collaboration will allow Austinites to enjoy authentic pastries in a setting inspired by traditional Parisian bakeries and the vibes of Austin’s farmers’ markets as well as the personality and aesthetic of Chef Myrtille herself, officials described.

“When designing the storefront, I imagined a welcoming space that feels like a French country kitchen to immerse everyone in an intense authentic French gourmet experience,” Myrtille said. “We hope that people who visit get the sense that they’re in a small corner of East Austin with Parisian flair and memorably delicious treats.”

With the opening of her first storefront, Myrtille has created a new venue for sharing her considerable experience and her passion for culinary arts. Fans will be able to grab a bite at the bakery as well as local farmers’ markets, where Myrtille will continue operating. Julie Myrtille Bakery goods can be found at the Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller, Texas Farmers’ Market at Lakeline, SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley and Bee Cave Farmers’ Market.

Guests are invited to join Chef Myrtille, the Julie Myrtille Bakery team and fellow friends for the storefront’s grand opening celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
