Fire Breaks Out At W Hotel In Downtown Austin
Blaze believed to have started with floor cleaning machines on eighth floor was quickly extinguished, with no injuries reported.

AUSTIN, TX — Firefighters responded to the scene of a fire at a downtown hotel Wednesday afternoon.
Initially a 2-alarm fire that was later downgraded, the blaze at the W Hotel, 200 Lavaca St., was quickly extinguished at around 3:15 p.m. shortly after crews arrived. The original call came in at around 2:47 p.m., according to fire officials.
Several key downtown arteries were closed to traffic during the conflagration — lanes on Lavaca Streeet from 2nd to 4th streets and 3rd Street from Guadalupe to Colorado streets to accommodate firefighters.

Fire officials said the blaze reportedly broke out in the eighth floor of the structure, emanating from floor cleaning machines. There were no reported injuries during the incident that prompted evacuation of some hotel guests, according to the Austin Fire Department.
