Former Austin Firefighter Indicted For Indecency With A Child

Marcus Reed previously was previously accused of sexually assaulting a woman with whom he made contact while on duty, DA says.

AUSTIN, TX — A Travis County grand jury this week indicted a former firefighter for indecency with a child, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, the district attorney announced on Friday.

The indictment by a Travis County grand jury was handed down on Monday, June 3, District Attorney Margaret Moore said in a press advisory. In addition to the indecency with a child charge, Moore said, ex-firefighter Marcus Reed was indicted for aggravated perjury — a third-degree felony punishable with two to ten years in prison.

The DA said Reed was previously indicted for the felony offense of Sexual Assault and for the misdemeanor offense of Official Oppression. Those indictments are related to allegations that Reed unlawfully used his official status as a firefighter with the Austin Fire Department to sexually assault a woman he made contact with while on duty, according to the DA. The new charges are unrelated to these allegations.

Moore declined further comment.
