Gas Line Rupture Prompts 4-Block Street Closing, Evacuations
Utility officials closed Comal Street between 4th to 7th streets as they repair the broken gas line, residents evacuated.

AUSTIN, TX — Utility crews on Monday afternoon scurried to make repairs to a ruptured gas line breached during construction, prompting the blocking off of several city blocks.
The affected area on Comal Street prompted utility crews to close the artery from 4th to 7th streets as repairs were made made. Residents living at The Arnold Apartments at 1621 E. 6th St. were forced to leave their homes to avoid inhaling the fumes.
The rupture occurred just after 2 p.m. when a construction crew hit a four-inch gas line.

By just after 5 p.m., the gas had been shut off. By 6 p.m., residents of the apartment building were allowed back into their homes.
Austin: Our crews are making repairs to a line hit by a third party. Comal St. will be closed from 4th to 7th St. as repairs are made.
