Here's A List Of Lakes Open, Closed This Weekend

With recent heavy rains, lakes have been intermittently closed or opened; here's the latest updates on the status of area lakes.

AUSTIN, TX -- In plotting out your day at the lake this weekend, it might be helpful to know which lakes are actually open.

Rain-induced debris has created dangerous conditions for boating after recent storms, prompting officials to close some area waterways. But then, officials have lifted such bans on some lakes.

It's hard to keep track, and it's rather dizzying to keep up with what lakes are open when and which have boat bans in place. But here's a quick snapshot, courtesy of the Austin American-Statesman:

Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake will remain closed until Monday, along with the Colorado River downstream of Longhorn Dam, per the Austin Police Department.

The abundant amounts of debris at those waterways still hasn't been cleared, making conditions too treacherous to go out in the boat.

Conversely, bodies of water under the supervision of the Lower Colorado River Authority have been re-opened, officials announced on Friday. The upshot: Lake Buchanan, Lake Inks, Marble Falls Lake and Lake Travis are all now open, the Statesman reports.

The LCRA's re-opening of those lakes doesn't mean that conditions are optimal for boating, however. LCRA officials noted that the bodies of water still contain a higher volume of debris and currents are swifter than normal after recent heavy rains added to the water level.

So if you go boating: Please be careful and safe as your navigate the waters, while conscious of the still-present debris and stronger currents in the wake of recent downpours.
