Iconic Hut's Hamburgers Closing After 80 Years In Austin
Burger fans are flipping out at news of imminent closure, but newer location at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will remain open.
AUSTIN, TX — As local eateries go, Hut's Hamburgers in downtown Austin is iconic. But come October, it will shut its doors forever after 80 years in business, its owners announced on Monday.
The location at 807 W. 6th St. is slated to close Oct. 20. But don't flip out, burger fans: The recently opened satellite at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will remain open, officials said on Facebook.
The burger joint first opened in 1939 on South Congress Avenue — when Franklin D. Roosevelt was president — before moving to its current location in 1969.
