Here are the top stories in Austin today:
1) Incoming rain and high winds will likely complicate power restoration efforts. Strong winds are in the forecast for Tuesday and could result in more trees and branches falling on power lines. Austin Energy now estimates power will be restored for the nearly 30,000 remaining customers by Sunday, Feb. 12. KUT has more on this story here.
2) Austin Energy is hosting community events this week to assist Austinites that are still without power. The events will give impacted customers an opportunity to charge phones and other devices, charge medical devices, and learn about Austin Energy's medically vulnerable program and financial assistance options. Learn more about these upcoming events here at KVUE.
3) Two airplanes narrowly avoided a collision at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Saturday. A FedEx cargo airplane attempting to land at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Saturday morning had to change course after a second plane operated by Southwest Airlines was cleared to depart from the same runway. According to Flight Radar data, the planes were within 71 feet of each other before the FedEx plane began climbing and rerouting. Thankfully no one was injured and the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the incident. The Austin-American Statesman has more here.
4) Austin Police Department reports that one person is dead, and another person is critically injured after a shooting in North Austin yesterday afternoon. The incident reportedly happened in a parking lot near Rundberg Lane and I-35. Law officials said no suspect information is available and that they're still investigating the incident. KXAN has more on this story here.
