Pflugerville's 'Mr. Max' Is 'King Max' For A Day

Max Poss has guarded intersection near Murchison Elementary since 2006

NORTH TEXAS-PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- School crossing guards are unsung heroes for the most part, their crosswalk presence in helping children arrive to school safely something largely taken for granted.

Not so in Pflugerville, where the city honored its longtime crossing guard Max Poss who’s s guarded the Kelly Land/Kennemer Drive intersection near Murchison Elementary School since 2006.

Mr. Max, as students and parents call him endearingly, had Tuesday proclaimed as his day and a bench dedicated in his honor, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

City officials were joined by students, parents and teachers in honoring Poss’s longtime duty during his special day.

“Mr. Max is a comforting fixture in our community and always has a smile on his face even in the rain, sleet and 100-degree temperature,” Mayor Jeff Coleman said.

Poss was clearly moved by the gesture.

“I’m honored by all of this,” he told those gathered. “This job is not really a job. It’s more of a calling.”
