Man Fatally Shot By Cop In Central Austin Home Invasion IDed
Christopher Eric Giles, 23, of Albuquerque, N.M. fatally shot after police say he shot at them first.

AUSTIN, TX — Police have identified the man fatally shot by an officer Friday during a home invasion in Hyde Park.
Christopher Eric Giles, 23, of Albuquerque, N.M. was shot by officer Matthew Jackson last week after police first during a home invasion along the 4500 block of Avenue G. The home's occupants hid in a closet while one of the victims called 911 at around 3:40 a.m. last Friday. Police later said Giles fired his weapon inside and outside the house without injuring anyone, police said in a subsequent press briefing.
After attempting to flee, Giles was told to show his hands, according to police. Instead, police say, Giles shot at the officers. Police returned fire as a result, with Jackson delivering the fatal gunfire.

Jackson has been placed on administrative leave per protocol involving officer-involved shootings.
