Austin Man Hospitalized After Lake Travis Near-Drowning Succumbs To Injuries (Update)

Saugata Ghosh, 34, of Austin had been transported to the hospital in critical condition after near drowning.

AUSTIN, TX — A man pulled out of Lake Travis on Sunday after nearly drowning there has died, officials said on Monday.

Saugata Ghosh, 34, of Austin, was pronounced dead at 5:26 p.m. on Sunday after being rushed to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Travis County Sheriff's Office officials said. Austin-Travis County EMS medics extracted him near the Emerald Point marina at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in what was then termed a near-drowning incident.

Travis County Sheriff's Office deputies were responded to a report of a CPR in progress on a party boat on Lake Travis on Sunday before Ghosh was transported to the hospital. According to witnesses, Ghosh and several friends were swimming near the party boat when he started to struggle in the water, sheriff's officials said.

The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming weeks, pending toxicology results, TCSO officials added.

AUSTIN, TX — A man was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday afternoon after nearly drowning on Lake Travis, emergency officials said.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials said the man was rescued from the lake near the Emerald Point marina at around 4:30 p.m. He was transported to the Baylor Scott & White medical clinic in Lakeway, EMS officials said.

The age of the victim was not disclosed. It's unclear what caused the man to nearly drown at the lake.
