McNeil High School Placed On Lockdown [UPDATE]

District officials say everyone's 'safe and secure' now but don't provide details on why action was taken.

ROUND ROCK, TX -- The lockdown of McNeil High School Thursday afternoon may have been done in an abundance of caution, according to school district officials.

Round Rock ISD officials issued a tweet alerting officials had taken the action at 1:50 p.m., but lifted the lockdown less than an hour later at 2:30 p.m.

“After an investigation, we were able to confirm that the school is safe and secure,” RRISD Corey Ryan said in an an email. “Please note that we did need to adjust one of our lunch periods.”

Ryan didn’t specify what the perceived threat may have been that prompted the lockdown of the high school.

“The safety and security of our school is our top priority,” Ryan wrote.”With that in mind, we take all threats seriously.”

Ryan used the opportunity to convey the student to immediately contact an adult if they hear even rumors related to threats against a school.

The spokesman urged students “...to immediately contact an adult if they hear any rumor or conversations regarding possible actions that could threaten others or the school. Parents must also be aware of the significant consequences they face if involved in any such activity.”

ROUND ROCK, TX -- Round Rock ISD officials have sent a notice to parents alerting all students are safe after McNeil High School was briefly placed in lockdown Thursday afternoon.

In a tweet, RRISD officials said staff and students are “safe and secure” but did not provide details about why the school was put under lockdown just before 2 p.m. on Thursday.

School officials said they would provide more details as the day progresses.
