Megabus Opens New Terminal In Downtown Austin, Replacing Former Site Near UT Austin

Shiny new terminal at 1500 San Jacinto Blvd. replaces open parking lot area that offered no bathrooms, protection from elements.

AUSTIN, TX — The bargain bus service Megabus has opened its downtown Austin terminal, complete with an indoor waiting area and wi-fi.

The new Megabus terminal at 1500 San Jacinto Blvd. replaces the one on Whitis Avenue near the University of Texas at Austin, which was just a parking lot where travelers would wait for their bus. As CultureMap reported, the new, full-fledged terminal is so much more: An indoor waiting area with an 80-person occupancy, air conditioning and updated bathrooms.

If you've never taken Megabus, it's a rather comfortable ride. The double-decker buses are comfortable, with spacious seats and wi-fi inside the bus. One makes a reservation online, and simply shows an emailed receipt sent to one's phone to the attendant to secure on of the open seats.

The new terminal extends that level of comfort, providing an indoor waiting area in place of the outdoor site that offered no protection from the elements. Officials attribute the upgrade to growth as more people learn about their cheap fares—trips from Austin to San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston for as little as $1, plus a reservation fee.
