AUSTIN, TX — City of Austin road crews this week began to replace the long-misspelled "Manchaca" road signs to reflect the correct spelling of the "Menchaca" surname.

Austin City Council members voted last year to correct the spelling of the street named in honor of Tejano revolutionary José Antonio Menchaca, credited with fighting in a key battle during the Texas Revolution.

The signage change comes after a lawsuit seeking to stop the replacement of the signs failed earlier this year. The suit was halted after State District Judge Dustin Howell cited issues related to jurisdiction in his inability to rule on the case.
