Oltorf Street Work In South Austin Moving Full Steam Ahead

I-35 at Oltorf Street construction project continues, as the new northbound I-35 braided entrance and exit ramps begin to take shape.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — The construction project at Interstate 35 and Oltorf is progressing, with the new northbound highway entrance and exit ramps beginning to take shape, state transportation officials said Monday. In May, crews worked to build bridge columns and set 24 beams for the improved ramp configurations, which features and elevated entrance ramp that will cross over the exit ramp, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Once complete, this braided ramp design will improve safety and traffic flow by separating traffic entering and exiting the I-35 main lanes, TxDot officials said.

While work on the elevated entrance ramp continues, TxDOT is preparing to open the permanent exit ramp for Oltorf Street and reopen the northbound extended entrance/exit lane to traffic, officials added. In addition, construction of the north to southbound U-turn lane on the Oltorf Street Bridge also moves forward with the recent deck pour, officials said.

Drivers aren’t the only ones benefiting from the I-35 improvements, officials noted. Bicyclists and pedestrians can now enjoy newly completed segments of the shared-use path along the northbound frontage road south of Oltorf Street, TxDot added.
