Pedestrian Fatally Struck By 2 Cars In South Austin Identified

Jacob Boelter, 41, was walking along a dark stretch of Bluff Springs Road when he was hit by a car before being struck a second time.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian who was killed in South Austin after being struck by two cars in South Austin earlier this past weekend.

The incident occurred on Friday, Feb. 7, just before 1:30 a.m. along the 6800 block of Bluff Springs Road. According to preliminary police findings, a pedestrian was on the inside, southbound lane of the road when a 2015, black Nissan Rogue heading southbound on the inside lane struck him.

The pedestrian came to rest on the inside, northbound lane of Bluff Springs Road before being struck again by a 2002, green Mazda Protégé traveling northbound.

The pedestrian, identified as Jacob Boelter, 41, was rushed to St. David's South Austin Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just before 3:30 a.m. In an initial press advisory, police noted the stretch of roadway where Boelter was traveling was poorly illuminated.

Police said the driver of the Nissan contacted police after learning the collision had resulted in a fatality, leading to the car being impounded. The driver of the NIssan remained at the scene to cooperate with a police investigation, officials added. No arrests have been made, police added.

The incident resulted in the 13th fatal traffic crash of 2020 in Austin resulting in an equal numbero fatalities, police said. At this time in 2019, police added, there were six traffic fatalities.
