Pflugerville City Council Adopts Amended Noise Ordinance

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Pflugerville City Council members approved an amended noise ordinance at their meeting on Tuesday.

Effective immediately, the revamped ordinance reduces maximum noise levels, extends daytime hours on weekends, adds a permitting process for music venues, special events and construction projects and gives police officers more discretion in enforcement, officials said.

The newly amended noise ordinance reduces the noise limit from 85 decibels to 70 decibels during the day and 65 decibels at night in residential areas, and changes our daytime hours as follows: Daytime hours are Sunday - Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight.

"Similar to neighboring cities, this adjustment restricts activities like loud music and equipment outside of specific hours, with a few exceptions. Allowable noises include emergency work, emergency services, school and city events, aircraft, organized sporting events, church bells and daytime use of lawn care equipment.

The ordinance also introduces a temporary permitting processes to allow activities above the maximum sound level for special events or construction projects. In addition, music venues can apply for an annual permit provided they are at least 200 feet from residential areas. All permits will be issued through the City of Pflugerville Development Services, and must be requested 10 business days prior to the event.
