Plot Out Your Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Route To Avoid Sex Offenders' Homes In Austin

There are a number of ways to research which homes to avoid, including the state sex offender registry, City-Data.com and more.

AUSTIN, TX — According to research compiled by City-Data.com, there were 1,035 registered sex offenders living in Austin as of Oct. 15, 2017. Stated another way: The ratio of number of residents in Austin to the number sex offenders is 814 to 1.

As children prepare to go trick-or-treating this Halloween, parents and guardians are advised to devise a list of addresses to avoid where sex offenders live. There are a number of resources available to compile this research. In addition to City-Data.com, the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry is downloadable for free, a parental tool offered by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The mobile app is compatible for user on iPhones, iPads and Android phones and tablets.

On the app, parents will be able to find interactive, user-friendly maps for searching registered sex offenders by location, name, route and proximity. Users of the app also can report suspicious behavior or criminal activity via the mobile app. You can download for iPhone from Apple App store by clicking here. DPS also offers an interactive map that logs all registered sex offenders based off of their addresses and provides. The interactive map is intended as a way for residents to identify the addresses and information of registered sex offenders.

By clicking on the link for the state's sex offender website, you can search by zip code in your city and other cities in the region and state.
