Police ID Victim, Suspect In South Austin Woman's Killing

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the victim and suspect connected to the death of a woman in South Austin over the weekend.

The incident dates to Sunday, Aug. 4, when police found Francy V. Martinez, 41, at 2501 Chapparral Trail with obvious trauma throughout her body. Police were dispatched to the scene shortly before 10 p.m. before the victim was pronounced dead at 11:02 p.m., police said in a press advisory.

Police have identified the suspect as Sergio Jose Gomez Herrada, 33, who is currently at large. Homicide detectives seek information on his whereabouts, noting that his last known location was in western Bastrop County in the area between Highway 71 and FM 969.

"He is believed to be using friends and relatives to get around," police added, noting he is in possession of a handgun and is considered extremely dangerous. "He has stated that he will not be taken by police," local law enforcement officials said. "If you see him, call 911. Do not attempt to approach him."

Detectives are also asking the public to be on the lookout for a red, 4-door Toyota Camry with Texas license plate FLH-0260 that belonged to the victim. Anyone who locates the vehicle is asked to call the police with the location of the vehicle and any occupant description. This is what that car looks like:

Police released photos of the suspect in the hopes someone might recognize him and alert police as to his whereabouts. In one of the released images, police zeroed in on a large tattoo the suspect sports on his right arm.
